Learning Spanish for Seniors

EHEspanish- seniors
  • I am too old to learn a new language.
  • Learning a new language is difficult and it’s not my cup of tea.
  • I can’t twist my tongue like the native speaker.
  • What good is it to learn a new language?

Do any of these sound familiar?

I used to think like that too. Until I retired … I have got time and like to travel to see the world. I can take my pension money and go stay in another country that is inexpensive to stretch my dollar.

It’s a good way to relax.
I researched and gotten in touch with EHE Spanish School in Colombia, the courses offered suits my needs, I took up the course for travellers, I want to learn from the native speakers and I plan to travel in Colombia for a year, learning the language will be helpful. I came to Colombia and came to love this language. What a fulfilling learning experience!

In EHE Spanish School in El Socorro, the town which was influential in the history of Colombia, it’s the place where the people revolt (Revolt of the Comuneros) against the Spanish rule in 1781.

The classes were fun, not only do we learn about Spanish, we learn a lot about the culture of Colombia too. The teachers are encouraging, it is not as difficult as I thought, the classes are in bite size and at a pace comfortable for us. With a few hours daily, the language built up over time naturally. I felt very accomplished at this age to be able to learn and practise a new language. Just after a week, I can buy items that I want from the market and order in a restaurant. The bonus comes when I can engage in a short conversation with the people of the town.
What better way to retire!

The school also organised many activities where I could mix around with other students from other countries, the number of students are small and we developed close relationships. I had my daily routine and time over the weekends to travel to be close. Living the fulfilled life that I wanted.
Learning a new language had helped me a lot, keeping my mind alert and able to connect with the locals, the experience of being in another county and learning a new language is amazing!

To Learn Spanish in Colombia is a great experience.
