Juan Curi Waterfall

Juan curi - Sangil - EHEspanish

Colombia’s past

I wanted to go exploring and a friend of mine recommended that I should to go to Juan Curi Waterfall. I had never been to a waterfall before, and I figured this would be the perfect way to spend my weekend.

My friend, Wycleff, and I had zero knowledge of Spanish before coming to Colombia. But in just one month of studying at the EHE Spanish School we both felt confident to venture out ourselves. All thanks to the teachers and their lessons at EHE! Cristian, the director of the school, has been of great help especially with directions and being contactable 24/7 in case we need a helping hand. We’re both looking forward to practice our Spanish with the locals!

Where in the world is the waterfall? There are mountains as far as I can see.

Saturday morning we made our way to the bus station to catch a bus to San Gil. We got to talking with one of the locals on the bus. He was so kind to help us catch the next bus bound for Juan Curi Waterfall. He even asked the bus driver to take care of us, and to let us know when we have arrived at the destination.

During our time here, we have learned that if we’re unsure of anything, you just have to ask. There is no judgment here, and the locals try their hardest to help you out. We walked together with some locals from Bogota. It’s a long way up but people on the opposite direction, making their descent, encouraged us to keep going.

Mesmerized by the sound and sights. My heart was bursting with joy. The sheer strength and beauty of falling water.

Being grateful for the nature, being thankful for this experience.

I realised my life is a journey, and I may not know the destination. But there are people who have journeyed the same path before me. It’s alright to take the time to smell the roses, opposed to rushing through life. As I continue to tread forward, all I have to do is to enjoy the present.

The journey is well worth it. Amid the vast and powerful nature, made me small and insignificant. All along, all I needed to do was be present in the moment, and enjoy everything in front of me!

I took time to reflect on things that I had taken for granted. For any travellers to Colombia, it is a must place to visit. I didn’t anticipate this epiphany with just a visit to a waterfall, but I’m glad that I did. I am sure your visit to this waterfall will be a memorable one.

To Learn Spanish in Colombia is a great experience.
